Canton police quit in the wake of the critical report

The Chief of police of the canton of Jeff Lance has resigned, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has learned, in the wake of a report highly critical of that blame him and his Department’s response to last month’s loss of 7-year-old’s body was found Jorelys Rivera later in the day’s trash compactor in River Ridge apartment where she lived and was last seen.

Lance did not immediately be reached for comment Thursday afternoon. City Manager Scott Wood says he’ll have comments this afternoon. The report blamed the Lance and the performance of the Department’s leadership has come under criticism from law enforcement agencies.

“There is a clear lack of leadership by the head of the agency that is based on the assumption that this is a routine” runaway child or lost, and he’ll show up, “wrote LaGrange police chief Louis Dekmar on page 19 review of the inquiry sent to city officials Tuesday.

Canton Mayor gene Hobgood said “it was very indicting reports from the Police Department, and I hate to use that Word, but it shows we have a lot of improvement to do with the Department.” He said the head of the Lance had been “very loyal employees of the Police Department for 20 years”, and the report is not only critical of him and his leadership.
