Autumn Sandeen: about civil rights and bathroom

Famous U.S. trans advocated autumn Sandeen wrote me today with the following:

The civil rights movement often have important aspects of the bathroom. Jim Crow laws in South America is one example. During the struggle to pass the same rights amendment (ERA) in the United States during the seventies, opposition activists like Phyllis Schlafly made advances to her side by saying that the amendment would ban public toilets are separate for men and women. And as long as the push for American Disabilities Act (ADA), opponents in the business community argued that renovating bathrooms to comply with the standard THERE would be too expensive.
